The History Of Animation PT2



George Pal



George Pal was born in Cegléd, Hungary in 1908 born American animator and film producer. He became an American citizen after emigrating from Europe. He is known for films with "The Great Rupert" and "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" He began by creating UFA Studios. Within the UFA Studios he patented "Puppertoons"



The Universum Film AG or UFA was set up in the world war II time and had its hayday in 1917 until the 1945 in Germany. It is still producing television and film media products today and it the longest standing film company in Germany.


"The Great Rupert" was made in 1950 and follows the story of a little squirrel with a lot of charm.



 

The Brothers Quay



The Quay Brothers are made up of Stephen and Timothy Quay, Twin brothers born on June 17th 1947. The identical twin brothers are better known as Brothers Quay or Quay Brothers. They are important stop motion animators who were recipients of the 1998 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design. Some films they have made are "The Piano Tuner Of Earthquakes (2005)" and "Insititute Benjamenta, Or This Dream People Call Human Life (1995)" these are there features but they have made tones of short films.

The Quay brothers studied at the Royal College of Art in London after taking an illustration at Philadelphia College in the US. The Quay Brothers use artist styles that are always influenced by Polish animators such as Walerian Borowczyk


"The Piano Tuner Of Earthquakes" was made in 2005 and is a dark fairy tale about a demonic doctor who abducts a opera singer.






Adam Shaheen





Adan Shaheen was born October 13, 1964 in London, England and is a British Animator and Television producer and Screen Writer. He is the founder of Cuppa Coffee Studios where he develops and makes all his original programming. He has made films such as JoJo's Circus, Celebrity Deathmatch and Bruno Bruno. He has also wrote many books about animation and his life.

"Celebrity Deathmatch - Bob Marley vs Shaggy (2009)"

Celebrity Deathmatch is personally m favorite of his work. I find it most enjoyable to watch.



Nick Park And Aardman




Nicholas Wulstan or "Nick Park" was born December 6th 1958 and is a English filmmaker of stop motion animation best known as the creator of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. He has been nomimated for a academy award a total of six times. He joined the staff of Aardman Animations in Bristol. Where he helped produce commericial products.

Nick was born in Lancashire in England in 1930 and grew up with the interest of drawing at a young age which later inspired his characters.

He is most famous for Wallace and Gromit which is his most famous work to date. He is known for his clay models and specific art style and the way his characters move there mouths.





 

Otmar Gutmann





Otmar Gutmann was born April 24th 1937 he was a German television producer and animator. His most important piece of work he has produced is Pingu, which is a long running childrens television show.    

He is only credited on IMDB for writing one series and that is Pingu. I has done other work but Pingu remains his most praised and loved creation.

 
Pingu is a classic childhood memory of mine personally. it has a very specific art style that is very unique.  The characters look like they have been made and created by children in there simplicity and colours.

      

                                                      

 

Phil Tippet




Phil Tippet was born 1951 and is a movie director and award winner visual effects supervisor and producer. Who specializes in creature design and character animation. He has worked on come big films such as Star Wars and Prianha. He won an academy award for Dragonslayer for his amazing animation of a dragon. Tippet completed bachelor's degree in art in the University of California.

He was born in California and studied there also. In 1975 he was asked by George Lucas to create a miniature chess scene in the first Star Wars movie. Which up until now I didn't know was even stop motion animation.




 

Tim Burton And Henry Selick



Timothy Walter "Tim Burton" born 25th 1958 and is an american film director, producer, writer and poet. He is famous for his dark and gothic style and quirky take on horror. He is famous for such films as Beetljuice, Edward Scissorhands and the Nightmare Before Christmas. He is know to collaborate with the same people on his work such as Johnny Depp. Burton graduated from CalArts in Santa Clarita, California in 1979.

Henry Selick was born November 30th 1952, he is a american stop motion director/producer who is best known for directing The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and The Giant Peach. In his early life he did little but draw, from the age 3-12 its all he did in his spare time. He studied science at Rutgers University and Art at Syracuse University. In this time he was nominated for a Student Academy Award.

This is my personal favorite scene from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" which is a classic film entirely stop motion.


 

Willis O' Brian




Willis O' Brian born March 2nd 1886 and was a American motion picture special effects and stop motion animator pioneer who been know to make some of the best-known images in cinema of all time. He has won the Winsor McCay Award in 1997. He spent his spare time sculpting and illustrating that lead him into being a draftsmen in a architect's office. His most famous work is King Kong.

The creation of King Kong was revolutionary of the times to see such a special creation in cinema.

Ray Harryhausen




Ray Harryhausen was born in June 29 and was a american visual effects creator, writer and producer who created the animation type "Dynamation" His most memorable work is "Mighty Joe Young" to whom he worked with Willis O'Brian and "The 7th Voyage Of Simbad"

He was one of the first visionary's to use stop motion and moving images in one with the creation of "Jason and The Argonauts (1963)" and specifically the skeleton fight scene.

    This is a post which focusses very much on the creator/developer, which is fine, BUT, you also need a bit more detail o the type of animation that they are famous for and then some solid/specific examples of work they have created, e.g., stills/videos of their texts.
